In Sacred Surveillance each artist questions existence under the auspices of something greater: a quiet, conscious, presence in one’s daily movements of the artist in the role of flaneur, watching the world solemnly from a distance. The selected works discuss how this presence of the transcendent is disclosed through both the hidden and discursive elements of human experience. The exhibit responds to a variety of mediums including sculpture, painting, poetry and mixed- media.
Gods and Monsters
The work of Mike Estabrook and Vandana Jain
August 22 - September 30
St. Paul the Apostle Parish Center
Curator: Frank Sabatté
Vandana Jain and Mike Estabrook will be featuring a variety
of new drawings and paintings. Jain's work is born from the language of icons, heraldry and corporate logos, while Estabrook creates grotesque imagery that is often informed by the archetypes of today's political pantheon. Though they approach their subjects in very different ways, Jain and Estabrook are both working with the symbols that represent the beliefs of contemporary global society.
