Artist: Maia Nero

Artist Maia Nero recently visited her friend Nestor Citino whom she was fortunate enough to meet during her 2015 Artist Residency at Lake George. Nestor is a talented painter who also repurposes silver to create one of a kind jewelry; his site Argento Creations can be found here.

While visiting Nestor in Palm Springs Maia found inspiration in a number of things. The natural beauty and blue sky of Palm Springs itself, the modernist architecture, the artwork and jewelry on display at the Desert Art Center and the emotional and less controlled stylings of painter Paula Acosta. All things combined ignited a sense of freedom and a whole new dimension to the two paintings, "Jungle Passion" and "Jungle Princess" Maia created while in the desert. Both paintings were produced in a short time frame and cement was even added to allow for a textural element of which Maia had never used before. During her holiday her inspirational friendship from Nestor and the creative environment she was immersed in brought to life abstract expressionism for Maia Nero which one can now experience in her new work.
