The exhibition is premised on the understanding that the subject of the installation, its central concept and title, the Self, is ultimately not limited, nor can it be limited by any concept that may be imposed upon it.

The exhibition includes (28) artists whose work reflects or departs from this concept in ways that are open to multiple lines of approach and yet as specific to direct human experience as possible. Many artists have responded with site-specific projects that are intended to intimately engage in the content of the space at hand; others have projected their work over great distances. The sum intention is a particular mood, an atmosphere, a new-found way of looking.
